Hi Dorcas, I would like to share how you have helped me to make minor changes in dealing with my son that actually have worked in a positive way. First off, I want to thank you for being consistent. Always answering any text message I sent. I also believe it to be God,s timing when I came across you. My first lesson i learnt was to look for something in my son that I appreciate and to stop telling him what not to do. As that is classed as fixing! Having a one on one conversation on zoom was amazing. Dorcas you know how to ask those questions that get me talking. That hour wizzed past so quickly Dorcas you are a great listener and have the ability to direct questions to where the most pressing issues lie. Staying in a positive mindset and giving small tips on how to respond in certain situations was a game changer I am now motivated to watch his behaviour and see it as my son communicating and rather than respond negatively or show him my frustration I attempt to address the behaviour and seek to understand, empathise and encourage. Its making such a difference. My son was virtually homeless when I started communicating to Dorcas. His done time in prison and now working hard concreting. His working physically on the foundations of a building while at the same time its a new chapter in his life starting from the ground up. As a mum of a recovering addict, I know how important it is to reach out and seek help from others. Seeking help from someone that can be trusted is invaluable. I have my peace back and able to be there for my son in the right way. We now talk about the hard things and are moving forward.
